We are looking for a talented and experienced Senior Full-Stack JavaScript Developer to join our development team and help us build sophisticated, high-performance web applications and digital products.
You will work closely with our Lead Developer and Chief of Technology on the architecture, development and evolution of established products as well as new platforms.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable working across the full stack, understands modern software architecture, writes high-quality maintainable code, and can take ownership of features from technical design through implementation, testing and release.
About the Position
Our technology stack is centred around modern JavaScript and TypeScript technologies, including Node.js, React, Next.js, NestJS, GraphQL, WebSockets, Kafka and relational databases.
Our products include complex, data-driven and real-time applications where performance, scalability, reliability and security are important.
You will work within a small experienced engineering team where developers have significant responsibility and direct involvement in technical and product decisions.
We also actively use AI-assisted development tools as part of our engineering workflow. Developers are expected to use these tools responsibly to improve productivity and code quality while continuing to understand, review and take full ownership of the code they produce.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain full-stack applications using Node.js, TypeScript, React and related technologies.
- Work closely with the Lead Developer and Chief of Technology on technical architecture and implementation decisions.
- Take ownership of features from requirements and technical design through development, testing and deployment.
- Build and maintain performant and scalable APIs, services and user interfaces.
- Work with technologies such as REST, GraphQL, WebSockets, queues and event-driven systems.
- Design and work with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.
- Write clean, maintainable, reusable and well-structured code.
- Write appropriate automated tests and ensure new functionality is reliable before release.
- Review code produced by other developers and participate actively in technical discussions.
- Diagnose and resolve performance, reliability and production issues.
- Refactor and improve existing systems while maintaining backwards compatibility and system stability.
- Consider security, scalability and performance when designing new functionality.
- Use AI development tools responsibly to assist with development, testing, refactoring and technical analysis while maintaining full ownership of the resulting code.
- Contribute to engineering standards, development practices and technical documentation.
- Keep up to date with relevant developments in software engineering and evaluate new technologies where they provide genuine value.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional full-stack JavaScript/TypeScript development experience, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Strong commercial experience with Node.js and React.
- Strong knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Experience with modern Node.js frameworks such as NestJS or Express.
- Experience with modern React frameworks such as Next.js.
- Strong understanding of API design and client/server architecture.
- Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Good understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, design patterns and separation of concerns.
- Experience working with Git and modern collaborative development workflows.
- Experience writing and maintaining automated tests.
- Ability to understand and work confidently within large or established codebases.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to independently research technical problems and propose appropriate solutions.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools effectively and responsibly.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a small engineering team.
- A strong sense of ownership and attention to code quality.

A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline is beneficial but not required where equivalent professional experience can be demonstrated.
